Appeared on the Simon Mayo show with a number of other teachers: a ex-soldier now teaching in Liverpool, a Deputy Head, Andy Bell, who won the Teacher Of The Year Award, and a Special Needs teacher. It was an hour long, civilised debate, where we all defended our holidays, explained the stresses and rewards of the job. All of us agreed that the biggest stress was governmental targets. I said the Work-Related Initiative was one of these idiotic targets, but I could have explained about all the new changes to A Levels, to GCSEs, the introduction of Diplomas and so forth as being more long-lasting and potentially devastating ones. Loads of people emailed in with mainly supportive comments.
